Welcome to the Liverpool Blue Coat School

Headteacher Mrs Debbie Silcock The Liverpool Blue Coat School is an over-subscribed voluntary-aided co-educational 11-18 school. The school is fully selective and is the only Grammar School in Liverpool.

In September 2008, the school became fully co-educational.

The school admits 120 students into Year 7 each September. The school welcomes external students into the Sixth Form from many local schools. The Sixth Form currently has 350 students in it.

The Blue Coat School has an academic tradition and has very good examination results at both GCSE and A-level. For the last two years, at GCSE, 100% of students gained 5 A*-C grades, including English and maths and more than 65% of A-level grades are at A or B. Nearly all students go on to University.

Although standards are very high, we are continually looking to improve in all aspects of the curriculum and extra-curricular experiences for the students.

In 2008, the School celebrated its 300th Birthday, with a number of special events and two exciting projects which have improved facilities for the students. The first project was an Astroturf sports pitch at the sports field and the second was a new Sixth form study area in the East Wing.

In September 2007, the School was designated as a specialist school in Science and Mathematics. This designation has enabled the school to invest in better technology and equipment for the delivery of many aspects of the curriculum, especially in Science and Maths. Also, it has enabled the school to work with its partners on exciting developments, such as Rocket Days and Forensic Science Days.

The school has recently changed its Headship in September 2008. Mr Sandy Tittershill retired, having been at the school for 42 years, including 7 years as the Headmaster.

The new Headteacher is Mrs Debbie Silcock (pictured) who had been the First Deputy Head since September 2003. [read more]
