The Blue Coat School is a mixed selective school for students aged 11 – 18, which converted to Academy status on 1^st March 2012. We are over 300 years old, so we are rich in tradition, yet we are forward-looking in ideas and technology. Whilst we have a reputation for Academic results, there are many events and activities which make The Liverpool Blue Coat School experience very exciting and rewarding.

September 2026 Admissions

Appeals Information

Appeals are administered by Wirral School Appeals.

Parents who wish to lodge an appeal should email admissions@bluecoatschool.org.uk to request an appeal form. Appeal forms will be available from 2nd March 2026, once parents have received their local authority allocation letter.

Completed appeal forms must be submitted no later than 13^th April 2026.

Appeal hearings will take place on 18th May 2026.

September 2027 Admissions

At The Blue Coat School, Liverpool, we select students for Year 7 through an Entrance Test process.  

Application Timeline: 

• Applications Open: Thursday 26 March 2026  

• Applications Close: Friday 24 April 2026 at 4.00 pm 

Parents of children currently in Year 5 are invited to apply for their child to sit the Entrance Test. Phase 1 test will take place in July 2026, and parents will receive the outcome of the test before completing their Local Authority school application. 

How to Apply: Applications are now open.  Access to the application form can be found here. Once you have submitted your application, you will have the opportunity to book your Phase 1 test slot. 

Test Structure: 

The Entrance Test is conducted in two phases.  Both tests will be conducted online at The Blue Coat School Liverpool, using a PC, keyboard, and mouse. 

Phase 1: 

All applicants will take the Phase 1 test, which assesses the following skills: 

• Reading 

• Spelling 

• General Mathematics 

• Mental Arithmetic 

• Developed Ability 

Approximately 600 applicants will progress to Phase 2 based on their performance in Phase 1. 

Phase 2: 

Applicants who qualify for Phase 2 will be notified on Wednesday 15th July 2026.  Phase 2 will assess the following skills: 

• Verbal Ability 

• Numerical Ability 

• Non-verbal Ability 

Phase 2 Test Date: Saturday 19th September 2026.
