300th Anniversary Charity Fundraising Year

The Blue Coat School commemorates 300th anniversary of the completio nof the original Blue Coat School building in the city centre with a year of charity fundraising for Kids in Need Liverpool (KIND) and the Whitechapel Centre
This year we are commemorating the 300th anniversary of the completion of the original Blue Coat School building in the city centre. The school began as a charity school for destitute children in 1708 and moved into what is now Blue Coat Chambers in 1717 so that the children could be housed and fed as well as educated. However, the building work did not end until 300 years ago with the addition of 36 almshouses at the back of the school. These almshouses offered accomodation for the adult poor of the parish whilst the school looked after the children. To mark this anniversary, the school is embarking on a year of charity fundraising for two local charities whose work is close to the goals of the original school - Kids in Need Liverpool (KIND) which provides support and opportunities for underprivileged children (https://kind.org.uk/) and the Whitechapel Centre (https://www.whitechapelcentre.co.uk/what-we-do.html) who work to support adults and families at risk of homelessness.
Last week Dr Wainwright led assemblies with all year groups to launch this project, and over the rest of the year we hope all members of the school community will join us in marking this anniversary by fundraising and continuing to make a positive difference in our community.
The first fundraising event is coming up this weekend when several staff (Mrs Baker, Mrs Brindle-McDowell, Mr Emery, Miss Nock, Dr Wainwright and Mr York) are taking part in the Liverpool half-marathon and looking to raise sponsorship for our two charities.
